And the same thing works in reverse: If you start your trip on the subway, swipe the card twice at the same turnstile before proceeding through; when later transferring to a bus, dip the Metrocard just once into the farebox. The farebox should emit two beeps, and the display should read "2 Transfers" (or something similar).

Thanks, good to know. Though, I don't think you can swipe the card twice at the subway and the turnstile will let 2 people go through. What I use to do is swipe once, then let my wife go through, then swipe the second time and then I go through. Is it this what you meant?
