Just throwing this out there as a possible alternative.

There is a twice weekly flight on Air Tahiti Nui from Tokyo to Papeete (codeshare on JL) and at least one flight a week from there to the Cook Islands.

Just in case you fancy island hopping, and isn't Tokyo an easier redemption?
