I really hope this is not true - this was one of main benefits of silver for me as we have a Y only company travel policy- getting a decent Y seat makes the longer journeys bearable.


However if this is true would the OW sapphire change across the board too with all airlines following suit...


If yes then even worse but if no changes to sapphire on other airlines it would just mean for any flights flying west I would make sure it was on AA metal or US airways and then based on my sapphire status make use of their free seat selection especially as you can get main cabin extra for free as well.
