Does the more than one firearm case fee apply to Elites? According to Delta's (Perhaps TSA's) rules, handguns and long guns can't be combined in one case. At least that's how I read it. That's fine if that's true but I don't see how I should get charged extra for a second case if I'm allowed 3 as a DM. I notice they only allow 1 scuba bag for a $150 fee and I always travel with 2 and have never been charged anything.
Yes it applies to all. The TSA/FAA requires that each gun be unloaded and packed in it's own hard case with ammunition in original packing or packed according to the rules. These are "special" baggage charges. The only waiver you get is for the basic luggage check charge. Having 3 has nothing to do with special luggage. On the scuba bag, a check in agent may consider a scuba bag to be a bag, and not realize there should be a charge. DL only allows one case for free, because of the added costs/steps involved in transporting guns and ammo.
