After fourteen years of modest participation in Flyertalk, I beg to differ on the pertinence of the larger topic. One can argue about the metric of personnel per airplane and how accurately it describes the efficiency of an airline, but United Airlines clearly is overstaffed compared to its US based competitors and as one contributor noted, the generous United flight attendant union staffing rules contribute to that situation. The smaller issue-how does United persuade flight attendants to leave-is clearly linked to the larger topic-reducing labor contribution to CASM.
