Denier is a measurement of weight. (It has to do with the weight and manufacture of the thread.) The ballistic nylon has a denier of 1050 and the Dyneema has a denier of 400. (The little "d" after 400 stands for denier.)
The difference between the two bags has to do with weight, durability and appearance.
The dyneema version is lighter in weight. If you're using the bag for daily, basic, non-adventurous travel, then either version would be fine. Both bags are durable--heavier doesn't necessarily mean tougher--but the dyneema version is less abrasion resistant.
There is a big difference with appearance. Dyneema has a checkerboard pattern while ballistic nylon is a solid color. That has to do with the dying of material. The "dyneema" version is actually a crisscrossing of dyneema and ripstop nylon. Dyneema itself cannot accept dye. It will always be in white. And that's why you have the checkerboard pattern.
Thanks. Ballistic nylon it is. The checkerboard pattern doesn't work for me.
