30 nights, not 30 stays. Or is that what "stay" means in hotel loyalty (I've never looked into hotels)

I dropped to silver this year, to be honest I've never had to call hotels.com since I started using it. I use it for the free nights - if I stay at a chain hotel can I "double dip", earning Hhonors as well as hotels.com points? Hotel loyalty never interested me because of the restrictions there seem to be on earning status.
