I write this while sitting in the temporary Business Class lounge for Kenya Airways. Unit 1A is the new Skyteam (Kenya Airways, KLM, Korean) terminal at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. (I shall post photo's later, as there is no WiFi, and my modem is slow).
Open a few weeks, with the gradual transfer of flights from the other terminals, it is a terminal that is long overdue.
There are two separate entrance - one for economy class passengers and the other for First/Business/VIP and Elite Skyteam members. Loads of self checkin kiosks are scattered around a breezy and airy check in area.
There is a security check just as you enter the terminal building. The doors are very narrow and if it is raining or cold, not a great place to have to queue up to get through a single scanner (yes two scanners to enter the building). Why could they not have made more entrances and added more scanners. When I came it was dead quiet, but I can imagine at peak times bottle necks being created.
There is a very nice business class check in area that is partitioned off with some sofa's and chairs. Check in was very quick, and there is a separate queue for sky priority members to clear immigration. This was a breeze, and head down a corridor, up an escalator to another security check (at least there are quite a few scanners), again with a separate queue for Sky Priority.
After this, you are in a secure area. All food outlets are again upstairs in a separate food court area, and there were several restaurants, bars and coffee shops.
Downstairs were a couple of duty free stores. Looked very stark.
KQ has a temporary lounge that is comfortable, with food options (sandwiches, breakfast breads, cereals) and a full bar. The staff said there are two new lounges due to open up stairs - one for Business class only and the other for Elite members. Both will have showers.
Will add photo's soon, and update the boarding process. I have a short flight to EBB but on the 787
