I just thought about something. Who are the folks who usually drag those huge bags with them. It ain't the guy traveling on business, right?

No, it tends to be the folks who are on their way to someplace for their vacation. So they are the ones who probably bought the cheapest tickets they could get, and they have exactly zero loyalty to any particular airline.

Therefore, this might be a back door way for the airlines to get more revenue from these folks.
