Traveling JFK-LHR-JNB in F. Flight from JFK gets into LHR at 9am. Flight to JNB departs at 7.30pm. We are going to clear immigration and head into London for a few hours. I am not sure if it makes a difference, but is it better to have the luggage checked all the way through to JNB, or collect it at LHR and recheck it prior to heading into London. I am just a bit worried that with such long layover, luggage could get lost at the airport. Figure if I check it in at LHR, even with a long time time before the flight, it has a better chance of making the right flight. Am I just being paranoid?
