Is it too disrespectful to the chef when you request a omakase? Can I say. omakase 6000/7000 yen? I really want to try local joints this time.
I am traveling to Fukuoka purely wanting dine at Yatai on the street, seems like finger pointing would be more then enough, maybe a little bit of google translate of single words..
Cheers
Fukuoka is a pretty large Japanese(read International) city, you will NOT have any problem in Fukuoka with yatai, many have multilingual menus. They are quite used to foreigners at their stalls. And before you ask, I lived there for 16 years ! You might try the following at the Yatai: Ramen, Oden, Yakitori, Nabe, especially the famous Hakata Motsunabe and Mizutake hot-pots. Should you run out of Yatai options, there are 100's of restaurants in the Daimyo area of Tenjin.
