Thanks everyone. I did send a response, stating that it can't be true for the rest of asia pacific based on very recent experiences of my own in Thailand, and included the PDF with hotel exclusions from accor, stating there's no sofitel to be found at all.

Luckily, escalating it was not necessary, since they took care of that themselves Got an email back from the duty manager, apologizing and confirming status benefits. So all's well for me.

The main reason I started this thread though is because upon researching this a bit I noticed I'm not the only one this happened to in China. There are several reports from the Sofitel Wanda Beijing of people who were not being treated as they should.
I think Sofitel would do well in training staff better, since this is simply something to be expected at this level.
