Companion Baggage Benefits on Mistakenly Split Rez (w/ ANA Codeshare)
I am UA Plat traveling with a non-elite companion in Y on a UA-issued ticket: HKG-NRT-DEN. The HKG-NRT segment is a UA flight number but is operated by ANA. We have a total of 5 bags to check and will be physically checking in with ANA at the Kowloon Airport Express station.
We were on a single reservation that was "accidentally" split by a UA check-in agent when checking in for our outbound flight (literally as I asked that he ensure it was not split). My companion's record is notated, I've been told, as having been split from mine (i.e. her record notes that she used to be on my same reservation).
1. Will UA or NH's baggage policies be in effect when we check in @ HKG? I know this is frequently discussed here, but I can't find a clear answer of MSC vs. DOT regs vs. *G benefits on codeshare flights ...
2. If UA's policies will govern, do I have any shot at getting my companion an extra baggage allowance based on our previously-single reservation that was split by a UA error?
3. If UA's policies govern, is there any way to have United notate in my companion's record that she is entitled to 3 free checked bags? Do I have any hope of ANA being able to see, and honor, such a notation?
4. Alternatively, is there any way to have UA update my companion's record so that she may "elect" to check 3 bags online (during OLCI), and not pay a fee? Would this be dispositive when we physically check-in with ANA the next morning?
Thanks for any advice.
