I have noticed that a lot too and also mused on it. Obviously somebody will be along with the answer, but I have always wondered if it is just one of these mandatory script things that has to be said at some point, similar to the captain always mentioning to keep one's seat belt fastened even when the signs are off and that this is a no smoking flight during his or her welcome on board message.
