Interesting DB question . . .

So I did a SIN MR this past weekend, and just had my last (domestic) leg to go.

After exiting customs, I put myself in for standby on an earlier flight home. I made it to the gate and saw I was was #3 on the stand by list. As the flight was ready to go luck would have it that they had three seats. I got my confirmed boarding pass with seat number.

There was someone in my seat. Turns out the reader failed to register his BP as he boarded. So off the plane I went, and put in for standby on the next flight.

It suddenly occurred to me today that as I was holding a confirmed BP, and they made me stay, was I IDB'ed? And what's the best way to get compensation.

I know that the 'morality' of such a claim is questionable as I only had the BP for moments before finding out I was going to be left behind, on the other hand UA has not had a great track record of 'doing the right thing' in recent years - so I'm not gonna lose too much sleep over my taking advantage of them.
