Agree for the most part and it's just nice to be, mm, nice.

However, it really depends where I am. Pickpocket scams are so rife e.g. in Paris now that I am ultra-wary. In China, I'm pretty sure that it's legit (all my experiences), or at worst case scenario, a lead-in to the tea house or other similar scam.
