Good question.
As a confused European travelling in many countries, I
think I know the rules about tipping. In most countries I visit, the position is clear. I recognise that the US does things in a different way. I know that wait staff earn two bucks an hour plus tips and normally tip appropriately. But in a self service buffet such as at the DT Times Square where the service is bringing a pot of coffee, what's the score? (I tip $10 on a '$60' free breakfast for two, so about 16.67%.)

(Gulp!) Tip the short order cook where you have to stand in line? I'd better tell my wife.
