Flew ATH-CDG on AF in J and completely agree with you on the on-board experience. I was surprised that J and Y are in a "mixed" cabin. Flew intra-Europe a couple times in J with LH and never experienced that. Heck, even U.S. based airlines have a separate cabin on their domestic first class.
