I thought OP offered that, but couldn't do it soon enough for OP.
I would expect they would have also considered changing dates to even later so OP could make another trip. I understand how difficult this might be for OP, but it's not unusual for an airline to not allow itinerary changes. I am happy that AA let's you now drop segments from the beginning and end of trips if in the zone doesn't change.
