Earning Avios with other airlines

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to clarify something.

I've been looking at flying to San Antonio, TX (see other thread). Booking would be via BA.com, flying transatlantic with BA and domestically within the US with AA.

The cheapest fare I found with any airline is £511 with US Airways. With BA (and to fly transatlantic with BA), it was about £560 with the connections I wanted. Today that's leaped up to £600 and I'm starting to wonder if it's worth the extra £90 to fly with BA - I'd like to but as a recent graduate it's a lot more money for me.

The offer I found with US Airways was on STA Travel. Am I correct in saying that if I book with US on STA, I can still claim the Avios for the trip given that US is part of oneworld? Or do I have to book the US Airways flights via BA.com to do this?

Thanks for your help.

Jamie
