So would I, but with a seven hour delay and having to waste a half day in BNA due to a MX (WX is another issue), asking for meal vouchers PLUS the airline voucher for an elite, isn't out of line IMO. IIRC, BNA doesn't have free wifi and Southwest doesn't have lounges (If I would have stranded in BNA for a half day I would just walk over to the Skyclub and use their free wifi and enjoy some free adult drinks) and that is a long time to spend in a concourse. And not to mention WN doesn't serve meals in the air.
Not sure about UA, but DL and AA are getting stingy with food vouchers. In the past they would just hand them out if you were delayed, but now you have to ask a GA. I have never been denied when requesting them on that long of a MX delay though.
WN use to provide vouchers. Five or six years ago my wife had a flight oversold out of MDW and in addition to the voucher they were also offering volunteers a food voucher and she took them up on the offer. She remembered those vouchers couldn't be used on Alcohol or in the newsstands on non-food items like Delta and AA vouchers, just on food and non-alcohol drinks in the concourse restaurants. I'm not sure if WN has different restrictions on their vouchers than the competition or if Midway has different policies than the airports I have used DL and AA vouchers in before (never had a reason to get food vouchers at MDW).
I have a SkyClub membership gratis due to my Delta status and would have just walked over there. If didn't have a lounge membership and was stuck in BNA that long, I would just walk over to the Admiral's club or Skyclub and buy a day pass. Even if you have one drink an hour and use the wifi, it would pay for itself.
I wonder why they didn't offer to reroute you through MDW or STL instead.
