About taxis - the hotel staff can write the destination for you and tell the taxi driver. The only slight issues were with getting back to the hotel - as taxi drivers were unfamiliar unless you told them the building name.
About the Suites - ended up staying at both the GH and PH - so I'll try to help out others with their decision.
GH: Suites are quite small and a bit dated - similar in size to the bigger rooms at the GH in Singapore. There was a lot of traffic in the hotel, service on checkin quite poor, and breakfast in the lounge was OK, plenty of Eastern and Western options.
PH: The hard product is excellent, as even the entry level suites are spacious, very well designed, and had a really modern feel to them. Diamond benefits are kind of lacking as there is no club lounge (or other benefits such as evening drinks at the bar a la PH Tokyo). The breakfast experience was quite poor - its just a big buffet (with a lot of options) but on 2 of 3 days, poor service. Went there from the PH in Seoul which probably had the best breakfast (service and ambience wise) I've ever had, so the PH Shanghai was quite a let down. The PH did, however, have a much calmer feel to it, with less traffic at the entrance and lobby, and generally much more upscale feel to it.
HoTB: Didn't stay there, but visited for a meal at Xindalu and a drink on the rooftop bar - nice views of the Bund and the skyline of Pudong, not as "luxury" a feel as the other properties, at least at the lobby/ reception, and of course nowhere near as high as the other properties, but probably the best location-wise. Again a bit strange service wise, as they had an intern make my mojito at the bar, which I had to send back because it didn't taste anything like a mojito - tiny issue, didn't matter, but not something I was expecting at a fancy hotel bar.
Hope this helps!
