Likewise, non-stop PVG-SIN flights are almost never delayed but I still choose to transit in HKG for the simple reason of earning mileage and paying only half the fare of SQ. To earning 100% mileage with SQ I have to pay twice the airfare and pay for simple things like extra legroom seats.
So at least CX/KA builds in sensible pricing so for last minute business passengers there is indeed a difference to entice people to fly via HKG instead....
