Doesn't JL have angle-flat seats in business on their 787s? While it's true that I'd be more likely to buy JL's PE than deal with MCE (and the risk of truly sardine-like coach on AA), if I were actually paying for a business class ticket I'd opt for AA's configuration.

In fact, I just did something like this: paying $2K more for business class on CX versus JL. CX turned out to be somewhat more convenient as well, but once I'm paying thousands of dollars for a business class seat, I want a modern and competitive product so JL didn't even factor in.
