Apple Care Protection

Hi all,

i wanted to break this away from the iphone 6 discussion - and I did a search and didn't find anything, if I'm wrong on that front, please let me know.

I do plan on purchasing the iphone 6 on Friday via pre-order. i've had an iphone 4 for 3+ years now, and it's gotten very slow, and it's time for a new phone.

I'm wondering about the boards thoughts on applecare and if it's worth the $100, and I feel there are people on this board who are much wiser than I am when it comes to these things.

The $100 is not a huge issue for me, obviously i'd rather not pay if I don't have to, so what I'm really worried about is the value of the purchase and if it's worthwhile.

I had thought (perhaps mistakingly) that Apple Care was for 3 years, but a quick perusal of apple.com seems to show it's only for 2 years, which to me lessens the value right off the bat.

Also, according to this page on apple.com, all I'm getting is one more year of warranty support, plus phone support beyond 90 days. To me, that is not worth $100, what do yall think?

And lastly, if I were to buy this with my Amex Platinum, how does that change the thinking? Any advice from people smarter than me would be greatly appreciated!
