737s are also about a foot smaller in diameter. Since pushing the cross section of the plane through air is what uses much of the fuel, this makes it cheaper to operate.

Although some pax recognize the inch plus narrower seats that result, many more recognize the lower ticket price that results.

There will probably never be many surplus Airbusses around. Their history is that when they go, they're scrapped, not resold. Just compare the history of the 767 and A300....
