Yes generally they are replacing longest 763 flights first so replacing AC9/10 with the 788 makes sense there. But boosting YYC to 251 seats from 211 seems like a bit much. Even if they are 'free' seats due to the 787 operating efficiency, AC is probably better off putting the aircraft on routes they wouldn't have an issue filling the 20% additional seats.
Couldn't one argue that with the 787 there will be the same paid J (fewer upgrades) and probably more revenue from the PE seats?
That would equate to more revenue from higher yield, and open the door for potentially cheaper Y - Tango as a filler if needed.
