While people cannot control height, shoulder width, etc., diet, exercise, etc. (and the size of their backside) is a choice for most. I'm 5'3" and of average weight...I fit in an airline seat - thankfully, I have access to Economy Comfort and upgrades. If I didn't and wanted more space, then I'd BUY IT.
As this is not DL-specific, Travel Buzz (

I understand your viewpoint. You are a very small person. I am 6'5" and 200 pounds - so very thin, but very tall. Not much I can do about being 6'5".
Just like in many areas of our country (gay marriage, health care reform, wheelchair access) - just because one is in the minority doesn't mean they should have to pay more to get the same access and comfort as the majority of people.
That is one of the reasons we have government - to protect the minority. I'm suggesting that this is one case where it may be needed. Tall people shouldn't have to pay extra to allow their knees to fit in a seat.
But I knew I'd get the same ol' song and dance from some folks saying "Buy 1st class if you want any sense of comfort you overgrown baffoon!". Sadly, those type of comments typically come from people that can't even reach the overheads to store their luggage.....
