I can report the Passport scanner works for US passports. Somehow, magically, UA has "lost" my passport data even though I fly internationally several times a year. Went to check-in for my flight to SYD tomrw and had to manually enter my passport info which meant no boarding pass until it was verified. Decided to use the mobile app and scanned my passport. The verification took about 90 seconds.

Once it came back accepted I was able to check-in *and* get BPs for my flights and I see my name on the upgrade waitlist now for the SYD flight. I wonder if everyone is going through this problem and that's why I'm the only one on the list at the moment.
