If you were to pay $195 for the room pre-tax you would earn 1267 points, so by saving $195, the cost to you us 13067 points valuing each point at approx 1.5c. If however, you were to pay points and cash, you'd pay 6000 points, but earn 487 back so a net cost of 5513 points saving $120 (cash element is $75) and a valuation of 2.2c per point. People often mention a decent value being 2cpp which the points and cash mechanism appears to give you.

Also, point value is typically reduced by future devaluation. Earn 'em and burn 'em.
