Getting to Cook Islands on BA/OW

I'll be getting married next October and thankfully the only part of the big day I'm allowed any real input in is the honeymoon, which is obviously the only part that matters

I've always wanted to go to the Cook Islands and the soon(ish) to be Mrs Furton is happy to go. I currently have circa 300k in Avios and a 241 voucher ready to burn.

My initial plan was to fly MAN-LHR-LAX (with possibly a stop in Vegas for a couple of days) then use Air NZ either the direct flight to Cook Islands or from LAX or via Auckland.

However, it looks like reward tickets to LAX are very rare and what are the chances of getting 2 First tickets?

I then thought about going via HKG which seems to have decent (or better than LAX) availability (in August 2015 anyway, so using that as a general indicator) and then Cathay to NZ then Air NZ to the Cook Islands.

Can anyone think of a better way to get to the Cook Islands and maybe using more Avios for First/Business class all the way?
