The city of Detroit isn't particularly alluring, although, if you gamble, there are several Casinos (including a big one in Windsor, Canada, across the river). The majority of the population lives outside the city limits. Suburbs are very attractive. Grosse Pointe has fabulous homes. Northern suburbs, like Troy and Auburn Hills, have many luxury stores, nice hotels, great restaurants, and excellent leaf watching in Fall (including cider and maple syrup opportunities). It is surrounded by lakes, rivers, and great outdoor options. For those of us who travel there regularly, the North Terminal is a blessing. Fairly new, spotless, uncrowded, with large gate areas, it is an oasis, compared to the Delta terminal, which requires an elevated train to get from one end to the other.
