Each to their own. I've always found driving - as a driver or as a passenger - remarkably tedious, particularly when you need to be somewhere (as opposed to meanderings slowly) and would always choose train by preference. Night trains - well, I can sleep anywhere, so you're really saving time, and I actively enjoy it. You can't read or enjoy the scenery while driving!
But fewer people share this joy these days - not least due to the prices of airfares falling. This brings a whole host of other positives.
I do hope some remain financially viable.
