Read another thread on something similar, but not quite...

Question #1: Flying CPT>UTN and then UTN>JNB. Flying coach. Called SAA and asked baggage rules, was told: 1 checked bag, 1 carry-on, 1 personal item, such as purse or briefcase.

Size on the ERJ for carry-on is 22" x 15" x 8". My bag is 21" x 14" x 9", but the depth part of it, the 9", is squishable--hardside back and wheels but all other parts are cloth, and flexible. Nevertheless, I am assuming they will check my carryon at the plane (valet check) as they tend to do on the ERJs, and I will not be charged. Correct?

Question #2: In your experience , what is the underseat requirement? Domestically here in the US it is 17"x 11" x 8", is that the same for the SAA ERJs or are they tiny spaces?
