I had the same problem earlier this year. I hesitated and when I came to book about 7 hours later the price had shot up as the A class fare from MIA-LAX had gone. Managed to recover the run and didn't suffer on price and TPs too badly. My lesson I learnt was to use the hold booking function on aa.com which gives you 24 hours breathing space to decide.
