Dr H is a huge SGS fan & I am as well (to a lesser extent). It would be a great choice for your "splurge". For the quick layover crash pad try S Sukhumvit Suites across the street or the Novotel Ploenchit. They're both about as close to a BTS station as you can get. ps: forgot about the 4Points it's maybe 200m from Asoke BTS and a good redemption option on weekends for 3K *points.
