I don't believe there's anything else you can do. Factors external to your reservation with AA - meeting friends, rides to the airport, connecting to/from other modes of transportation, etc. - are not relevant to your business exchange with AA.
You purchased travel from A to B, and they're getting you from A to B in approximately the contracted timeframe. (Presumably) you had the option to decline the new routing and receive a return of your miles, that's the extent of AA's obligation.
