Silly me for assuming that in 2014 all that was needed to issue a ticket was the push of a button. 77 minutes to issue two airline tickets in this day and age..... incredible.
That should not be the lesson. I've some changes less than 12 hours without problems. Ticket confirmation email received under 10 minutes. Just yesterday changed my J CX award to F for departure under 16 hours. New ticket issued under 20 minutes. The lesson is to keep an eye open for that new ticket#. In my experience, AA prioritizes ticketing based on departure date. If travel is under 48 hours, I would call back if no new ticketing occur within a couple of hours of making the change.
