When I lived there a few years ago I burned my remaining VS miles on a bunch of Hawaiian intra island flights. They weren't the easiest transaction by any means. I could often find HA award availability on other airlines' websites, but after calling, VS' couldn't offer me those same flights. Then, once you found something, after waiting the 24 hours, the booking was sometimes cancelled by HA for reasons VS couldn't explain. All rather laborious, but I did manage to use the miles eventually for a number of flights. I think, at the time at least, VS also only allowed return bookings and not half mileage OWs. Though my memory isn't as reliable these days as it once was.
