YVR-YYZ-Europe is totally fine (many Air Canada tickets fly that way anyways). There's a 400 mile deduction for connecting through YYZ or YUL which reduces your flight miles for MPM calculations

So: YVR-YYZ-WAW-MUC is within mpm 5, YVR-ORD-WAW is within mpm5, but YVR-ORD-WAW-MUC is not as that 400 mile deduction makes a big difference
