DEN-MEM has down very well for Frontier but probably not quite enough to start a second non-stop. So this is a same-plane thru' flight, giving an alternative timing for DEN-MEM-DEN pax, as well as the DFW traffic.
It's interesting that it's offering a same plane thru flight. It just recently eliminated TTN-MDW-DEN from future schedules. I wonder if this strategy will be embraced a little more in route planning. Does Frontier offer same plane service elsewhere?

DFW local traffic was probably the main reason for Frontier to start the route and from a brief check online, it appears that this route has high fares on AA and Delta, especially for one-ways and same week roundtrips. Given Southwest's constrained position at DAL, it's probably low likelihood Southwest starts DAL-MEM since MEM isn't a DCA, LGA, SFO category city, nor is it a major Southwest station, so that may have been considered. Houston is a different issue and we've yet to see CLE-IAH or other IAH routes as Southwest will likely add HOU to a lot of markets when Southwest grows at HOU.
