I don't quite understand the relationship between Edelweiss and Swiss, but I don't believe it's the same kind of arrangement as Lufthansa with Germanwings, for example, which results in different mileage accrual and usage options in Star Alliance. It's odd that the UA site doesn't even mention Edelweiss, but I think the booking class for Swiss should determine the earnings if you can book awards on Edelweiss operated flights at the same mileage rates as Swiss.
Edelweiss passengers who have booked their flight in code share with SWISS qualify to earn "Miles & More" premium miles. A requirement is a LX ticket with a ticket number beginning with "724".
