I understand what he is trying to do. I recently booked a an award ticket 355 days out, I just waited an additional day to get the temporary return flight eg flying YYZ-WAW 1st of July 2015 (want to keep this date) and WAW-YYZ July 2nd, which I later changed to WAW-IST-YUL August 7th 2015 for $90 minus $120 YQ so made 30$
