AND:
Cattle traders have blocked access to an airport in Clermont-Ferrand in a protest at the cost of foot-and-mouth disease.

Their protests mirror earlier blockades in Lyon on Monday and Toulouse on Tuesday over tough restrictions on the movement of animals.

AND:
USDA will increase staffing at
international airports in an attempt to keep foot-and-mouth disease out of the
country. Officials said that because loopholes may exist at some airports, more
staff would be placed to interview passengers and inspect baggage for flights
returning from any country where the disease of cloven-hoofed animals has been
found. This and other issues were discussed this morning on what has become a
weekly teleconference with members of the press.
