1 year in advance booking: what about the return leg ?

Hello,

I am not that familiar with Aeroplan so here is the situation I will be facing soon : Let's say I want to book 1 year in advance a round trip ticket from Quebec City to Manilla, business class, from let's Jan 1 2015 to Jan 20 2015.

I understand I can book the flight for Jan 1 2015 starting approx. Jan 1 2014, but then the Jan 20 2015 return flight will not be accessible.

So I guess my question is : does this mean there is no other way than to wait approx. Jan 20 2014 to book the return trip, with the risk of "loosing" the opportunity to book excellent Jan 1 2015 flight that will have been booked by people with and earlier return date than me? Is there a way to "freeze" the Jan 1 2015 flight then wait till the Jan 20 2015 flights are available and then make the 2 flights a 1 round trip?

Thank you and sorry if this is a stupid newbie question !

Louis
