I'm a total newbie when it comes to travel hacking. I'm booking a flight from BOS to CAN. I found one for $1040 on Orbitz (see screen shot below) but I'm not sure if the airline (Hainan Airlines) will qualify me for any frequent flyer miles on any other major airlines since they're not a member of any alliance (?)
Do you think it would be smarter to book another airline that will qualify me for frequent flyer miles? There's BOS - IST - CAN - IST - BOS on Turkish Airline for $1200.
