These don't seem like informed posts, in my experience. Maybe the posters are thinking about the old Shanghai Airlines sponsored PVG lounge, which was only useful for the extra space and chairs.
The Air China business lounge (accessible to *G members) at PVG is actually really nice. Decent food and drinks, showers, nice restrooms, TV/movie room, and a few other amenities. Slow/throttled internet connection, though, but that's pretty standard across all China wifi stations.
I much prefer hanging out there for an hour or two before a TPAC flight than I do at my company's offices or my hotel. The decent food means I can also skip UA meal service and sleep onboard.
