Delicious salad served on this late-night flight...
Just kidding! That's actually the salad I had in the AS Board Room before boarding the flight, after correctly anticipating that this would be the "meal"...
Please excuse the poor lighting, as my overhead light on the refurbished 757 pointed at the divider between the seats.
Drinks were served with a bag of updated snack mix. Updated in the sense that the single almond has been replaced by a single cashew. They then passed around the short-haul snack basket supplemented with two pre-packaged sandwiches. The turkey pictured below, and something with cream cheese and jalapeno and some other stuff, which I did not try. The "sandwich" measured 2 inches x 2 inches. When I asked for another one and mentioned the tiny size, the FA said "welcome to the new American".
The continental breakfast was actually a pleasant surprise. Rather than a "continental box", it was served on a tray with proper silverware and linen napkin. A nice bowl of granola+raisin cereal came with a carton of milk, a small cup of Dole fruit cocktail, and a bag of "two-bite cinnamon rolls". Obviously a bunch non-perishable stuff catered on the inbound flight. A proper bagel/muffin/croissant and a bowl of real fruit would have completely transformed it. Even a cup of yogurt would have been nice. (Sorry no picture due to lighting conditions noted above.)
Other aspects of the "first class" service were as downgraded as I reported on my DFW-ANC flight: no tablet/headphones or duvet+pillows, as provided on a previous trip.
AA is working hard to lower my expectations, and making DL look better and better.
