Just received my Delta Reserve card today, and while activating it online, noticed the credit limit was a measly $5,000! Ridiculous for a card with a $450 annual fee.

My plan was to partially shift some spending to it and run up $60k by year end for the bonuses. Can't do that with a $5k limit (which translates to maybe $3,000 monthly spending with payment dates). I applied online for a credit increase, got an instant denial "no increases for 60 days".

I have an Amex Platinum card with no spending limit, and an Amex SPG business card with a $50k limit. 800 FICO score, high income, etc. Last year got a United MileagePlus Club Card with a $50k limit to start, since bumped up to $70k. Have an AA Platinum card with a $100k limit, Wells Fargo Private Bank by Invitation (chip and pin, yeah!) with $100k. Obviously pay in full every month and don't run up a high spend compared to my credit lines.

After 30 minutes on the phone with multiple Amex reps, including managers, they kept coming back to it was "system generated" and they can't do anything for 60 days. One rep said I could transfer some credit from the SPG card, then transferred me to another rep who said you can't transfer from a business card to a personal card. And no transfer from a Platinum card since it has no limit! Finally I gave up while talking with a (very nice) manager and said it was ridiculous to offer a card with bonuses for charging $60k per year and then offering a credit limit to make it near impossible to do so. She agreed, but after checking internally with multiple depts said nobody could change it for 60 days, and nobody could tell me why it was set so low in the first place.

I am curious, has anyone with this card gotten such a low limit? Or have I set some sort of Flyertalk record to the downside for this card?
