I was on a brand-new 744 in Apr 1991 (it was about 2 weeks old, so must have been G-BNLS or G-BNLT) and did SIN-LHR on the upper deck and I'm sure it was economy up there, and that's the map I'm looking for. IIRC, this config didn't last long at all and was soon replaced with nicer seats up top.
